Gastrostomy and tube feeding support

There are many different reasons that someone requires an enteral feeding tube and many different types that can be fitted.  They are often used when a person has a condition or injury that prevents eating a regular diet by mouth, but their Gastrointestinal tract is still able to function. The feeding method chosen will depend upon the individual person’s circumstances and whether these are needed short-term or long-term.  At Ocean Healthcare we have experience of caring for people with different types of feeding tubes including:

  • nasogastric tube feeding (NG).
  • Jejunostomy tube (JEJ).
  • percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG).
  • Gastrojejunostomy (GJ).
  • Button gastrostomy (more frequently used in children).

Care for a person with
AFeeding tube

When it comes to feeding tubes our carers receive specialist training on how to use and care for each method. These are life-saving, and managed well can mean a person can have a healthy, happy and independent life. Our nurse-led care team will work with the person’s healthcare professionals and dieticians to ensure their care plan has detailed and up to date information about their regime whether continuous or bolus of all nutritional intake.
